The World of Telecommuting [Infographic]

June 6, 2013 By Susan Gunelius

Telecommuting has been a hot topic for years, but earlier this year, it took center stage when Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer eliminated telecommuting for all employees. You can read some of my thoughts on that decision by following the previous link and by reading the transcription of my interview with NPR.

I’ve published some informative infographics about telecommuting here on Women on Business over the past year, including:

  • The Real Benefits of Telecommuting Infographic
  • Americans Speak out on Telecommuting Stress, Benefits and Demands Infographic
  • The Perks of Working from Home Infographic

Now, I have a new infographic to share with you, which comes from HowDoIBecomeA.net. The World of Telecommuting infographic provides a global look at telecommuting and includes statistics related to the number of workers who telecommute by country as well as opinions about the benefits of telecommuting across numerous countries.

Did you know that one in seven employees around the world telecommute frequently and just 7% of the global workforce works from their homes every day? Did you know that six in ten employees around the world would telecommute if they were given the option to do so? Those statistics and more can be found in the infographic below.

Thank you Susan for expanding my perspective on Telecommuting and I hope you reach the widest possible audience with the facts, the advantages, the importance of telecommuting! The advantages far out weigh the dis-advantages and I will help in any way I can to spread the word on this topic. In my experience–anyone–any executive who would regress to a less enlightened view on this topic, including Marissa Mayer at Yahoo, is showing their lack of objectivity, integrity, and their control freak and micro-managing weaknesses! We know the type! Those that don’t have the respect for others to allow them to do their jobs from home–when possible–are simply not the quality leaders we want in charge. I have lost respect for Yahoo for allowing this absurdity.

Wow, such an interesting article. I’m shocked how many countries have such low percentages of people who have to be at their workplace.
