Being Womencentric Rocks!

July 18, 2011 By Sylvia Lafair

When you meet a woman who has a vision that doesn’t quit, it makes sense to hang out with her. That is what I am doing with Pattie Simone. She is a spicy gal from New York who grew up when women were still on the quiet side; yet she could not be put in a playpen. She saw opportunities and ran with them.

She still does!

Her vision is a site for women: entrepreneurs, academics, scientists, authors, speakers, business owners, solopreneurs, you get the flavor, to promote their ideas and wares to women all over the planet.

What is interesting is that Pattie had this idea long before facebook and linkedin were a gleam in anyone’s eye. She was a busy wife and mother of three and the dream of a site for women kept growing and morphing. In 2008 she did the keynote address at Think Tech about how consumers were using the new platforms in technology and she knew it was time to grow womencentric to the next level.

Then she sat in the  front car of the roller coaster known as entrepreneurship and held tight. As a woman she was determined to have an affordable site that would answer the age old question “what do women want”? That is the first question you get to answer when you join her online.

Here is the good news. We women want flexibility and the ability to change our minds and have someone listen to us. What better way than to have women talking to women and making change happen.  Part of Pattie’s dream is to have folks say “Hey, I’m looking for a top notch woman to speak, to collaborate with, to help me sell my product; guess I’ll go to womencentric and find the best!”

When I talked with Pattie I knew I had met someone who belongs in my book “GUTSY: How Women Leaders Make Change”. So, here I am offering a glimpse of gutsy to all of you. Enjoy.
