Earn Respect and Get Recognition as a Woman Entrepreneur

August 15, 2014 By Mary Isabale

Men and Women are considered as equals when it comes to recognition in the society.

Really, does it really happen?

I personally believe it mostly happens in books and newspapers. We, women have to struggle a lot to get our due respect and recognition for our own positions, which we have achieved through our hard work and excellence. When it comes to women entrepreneurs, it’s even harder! It’s harder for some people to listen to a female boss than a male boss.

Many women entrepreneurs have faced similar situations to me—difficulties that female entrepreneurs have to deal with but male entrepreneurs don’t. During my work I have experienced some easy hacks to earn or achieve recognition for your work and respect from other people. Trust me, now that I use these hacks, I don’t have to explain. I don’t have to wait for any approval. I just communicate my plans and I find that my team accepts them.

1. Talk and Share

Being a boss, you don’t have to go rough and tough with your employees. The best strategy is to deal with them as a fellow team member. Make them talk to you. The happier your employees are with their boss, the better chances you have for profitable business results.

Don’t just impose your ideas and decisions, make a habit of talking and discussing.

2. Explain Only When Necessary

You don’t have to explain all the time – why you have decided this or why you have changed plans. Obviously business requires discussions, but often, clients or employees demand explanations. Explain only if you feel it is necessary. Keep in mind, you can meet the needs of your employees and clients, but surely you cannot keep everyone happy by fulfilling their demands all the time.

3. Your Voice

Did you know that your voice and speaking style can do 50% of your job? If you have any problem with public speaking, try to overcome that problem as soon as possible.

Often women speak too softly. A loud—but not harsh —is necessary to lead effectively. Speak loudly, but don’t be harsh. You need to learn how to fill an entire team with excitement with any new work or success.

Don’t keep your voice flat and boring. Keep it loud and definitely convincing—like a leader. Always make the right first impression.

4. Use of Gadgets

In this tech era, we incorporate technology in every aspect of our lives. Of course, at work we do have to use gadgets like a laptop, computer, and other software tools. Be smart and use gadgets and tools to present your ideas and plans. Make your presentations more interactive.

Don’t depend on other people to help you with basic tech skills. Instead, invest the time in building your own tech skills.

5. Deal with Your Clients or Customers

Often many women entrepreneurs let their employees deal with clients or customers as they find it difficult to manage everything by themselves. For projects or deals, when you feel it’s necessary, deal with them yourself. Do not ask others to do your share of work.

6. Dress for It

I shouldn’t have to mention how important dressing appropriately is. If you dress sloppily, people will get a negative impression about you at first sight. Dress like your position. Wearing inappropriate attire will only degrade your position and respect. Choose your outfits and footwear properly.
