Event Management Trends that Dominated 2013

November 21, 2013 By Silvia Pellegrini

It’s 2013, and more than that, 2014 is right around the corner. It’s time to look into the top event management trends.

Things usually start trending in business or event management because they work, so it’s imperative that you pay attention to them and begin to integrate them into your event work for more successful events.

1. Mobility

Tablet and mobile apps have become crucial tools for event management, not only because they’re fads and gimmicky, but because they’re great tools for on-the-move paperless work. A staff member can manage multiple events in a single app, or several displays at one event, or keep track of every attendee at the event with a digital roll call or sign-in, and so on.

2. One-Stop-Shopping

Event management companies who can cover everything—from communications, technology, logistics, and production—will be the new leaders. As event budgets tighten and when event managers don’t want to deal with multiple points along the supply chain, these all-in-one event management companies will come in to the rescue.

3. Social Media

Social media will become much more entrenched and established in event management, not only for suppliers who promote themselves, but for clients who want to gain knowledge and post their feedback. Customer service will become a lot more reactive because of the instantaneous and possibly viral interactions like Facebook posts and Twitter comments.

4. Sustainability

Being aware of clients’ expectations, venues/hotels will continue to discover innovative ways to balance sustainability with luxury and a green ethic, too. Eco-sympathetic measures will take hold.

What is your favorite 2013 trend in the event industry?
