8 Ways to Get More Followers on Pinterest

You probably know that Pinterest is extremely popular. I know I’ve spent hours on the site.

If you are on the site then you are among the 72.8 million users. The latest statistics I could find still said that 85% of the users are female.

One thing you might not realize is that Pinterest is another form of networking. You want to find and follow other people. It’s about making connections.

How do you get more followers on Pinterest?

It’s funny how sometimes we over complicate things thinking it’s hard to get followers when in actuality it’s much like getting followers on any social media site. An important part of Pinterest is contributing to the community on an ongoing and regular basis.

When looking for followers these eight ways might come in handy.

1. Add a Pinterest Tab on Facebook

When I was heavily involved in the wedding videography/photography business, my Fan Page did have a Pinterest Tab. This encouraged brides to look at my photos as well as get other wedding ideas. When you create this tab, make sure you tell your followers about it. In other words, make an announcement.

2. Add a Follow Pin on Your Blog

There are a number of ways you can add a follow pin. If you have a WordPress site, you can install a plugin to make this simple. If you use Shareaholic, you can have Pinterest included. People won’t automatically be following you but all you need to do is “ask” people right above the social icons.

3. Invite Your Friends and Family

When I first joined Pinterest, no one I knew was using the site. At that time, you had to get an “invite” to join. Today it’s much easier. Invite your friends and family to follow you.

4. Use Your Newsletter

When you send out your newsletter, you can ask your Tribe to follow you on Pinterest. Chances are some of them are already there but they haven’t thought of following you. Give them a gentle reminder that you are there and you’d love to connect with them on that platform as well.

5. Comment on Popular Pinboards

One of the things I encourage my clients to do is set up a blog and then find other blogs to get active on. Pinterest is no different. Find these popular Pinboards and comment. Everyone sees your comment and can follow you if your boards appeal to them. When you comment, don’t say, “nice board.” Add something of value to the conversation.

6. Post Original Content

If you blog on a regular basis as I do, you will have the content to “pin” on Pinterest. Set up a schedule of updates and then release them. In this way, those who follow you will see fresh content and will be on the look out for more.

7. Re-pin Other People’s Pins

When you come across a pin that you really enjoy, re-pin it! When you do this it shows up to more people giving you the potential to add more followers.

8. Use Keywords

Keywords are how people are going to find you. For instance, when I wanted a bride to look at a beach wedding, I would use those keywords. You can also add keywords in your description.

Getting more followers on Pinterest could lead more people to your website. The important thing is you need to know your demographic and if they are spending time on the site. If they are, what are they doing? What are they looking for?

What do you need to start doing if you want to get more active on Pinterest? Build your followers, like other people’s boards, and slowly but surely, you will start adding followers.

Just remember, as with any social media site, you need to have a plan as to why you are using the site. When you have that direction, you will know what types of pins to use to capture the attention of your ideal audience.
