5 Social Media Tips for Small Businesses This Holiday Season

December 1, 2022 By Andrea J. Sok

holiday social media marketing

The holiday season is a busy time for small businesses, so understandably, your social media strategy might not be at the top of your to-do list. Yet, with social media usage spiking to 73% during the holiday season, this is a critical time for your businesses to generate sales and connect with customers. Here are five tips to get you started.

1. Set Up Your Business Page

Creating a social media presence with information about your business’ products and services is great, but you’ll miss out on useful tools if your page is not categorized as a “business page”.

Instagram and Facebook give users the options to create either a business page or personal page upon creating the account, but you can go into your account settings and turn a personal page into a business page at any time. Business pages have access to tools such as ads manager, follower demographics, and content insights.

2. Themed Content

You may be tempted not to change up your business’ content for the holiday season, but that decision could lead to losing out on valuable customers.

Creating themed content for the holiday season lets your customers know that you’re open for business and a viable small business alternative to larger national chains. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with your customers- share traditions, insights into your holiday season, or what special products or promotions you have to offer this time of year.

3. Integrating Instagram Reels

Reels are dominating the Instagram landscape. Reels get 22% more engagement compared to regular videos on the platform. Creating reels can help your brand’s visibility and provide an opportunity to experiment with your content by utilizing sound and other features. Create an immersive video perfect for full mobile screen use.

4. Maximize Shop Features

Both Instagram and Facebook allow businesses to sell products directly to consumers. You also have the ability to connect your Instagram or Facebook shop to an existing online store on your company website. Making use of features such as product tags in your posts will help promote your products and drive sales.

5. Collab with Influencers

Collaborating with influencers and content creators makes it easier to grow your brand awareness to people that your business page may not be reaching. Partner with a creator that aligns with your brand to realize optimal results.

You can look at social media as a juicy holiday ham or dry piece of turkey depending on how you leverage it. Social media platforms give small businesses the brand power needed to compete with corporate giants and engage with their customers without breaking the bank. Be sure to make the best use of your business’ social media pages in order to make the most of the holiday season.
