4 Ways to Kick Start Your Momentum

February 27, 2015 By Toni Nelson

career kick startWouldn’t you agree that sometimes it’s challenging to keep your momentum going? Sure, there are times when everything seems to come together effortlessly.  As things progress, they get better and better.

The problem is life isn’t perfect. It’s not always easy to keep your momentum going. You might start a project that seems fun and exciting only to find there is a great deal of research that needs to be done before you get to the “fun” things.

It makes me think of the time we were painting our kitchen. I thought it would be so much fun to change the color of the room. We went to the store chose a paint color, brushes, etc., and I couldn’t wait to get home to get started. Then my husband told me the walls needed to be washed first. After that, we’d need to tape the ceiling, edges, etc. My “fun” project wasn’t fun anymore.

At times  you may need to power through and do what you really need to do before you can make a change.

When it comes to your business how do you keep your momentum when things get more involved than you thought they would? Here are four ideas:

1. Remember The Why.

This might seem obvious but let’s face it, sometimes just taking a step back and remembering why you are doing what you are doing is all the incentive you need to kick start your momentum.

2. Focus on Your Goals.

I don’t know about you but I find it extremely helpful to write down my goals. I like to be able to see them in plain view, and just the process of writing them makes them more real. If you aren’t reaching your goals, why not try this? Having goals written down gives you something to work towards and helps you stay focused.

3. Take a Breather.

It’s perfectly fine to stop and take a breath (break) so you can rejuvenate and organize your thoughts. Take this time to recharge your batteries.

4. Create Visuals.

This is one of my favorites. Decorate your office in a way that will inspire you. You may want to add a few pictures of your family, photos of you being handed an award, or a photo with someone famous that you met. Around your office, you can also have carefully placed quotes to help maintain you motivation.

I think sometimes we loose focus because things don’t happen fast enough. The next thing you know, you start to doubt the goals you are working towards.

Keep a positive mental attitude when going through this checklist and you will find yourself kick starting your momentum.
