8 Steps to Create Share Worthy Infographics

Posts with infographics on my blog are the most popular. Why? It’s an easy way to convey information about a topic. For example, one of my posts with an infographic received 28 tweets. That may not seem like a lot to you, but it is to me.

Sometimes a topic is understood easier by using this visual means of communication.

Since it takes a lot of time and effort to create infographics, you want to make sure they are share worthy. This means you need to understand who your audience is and how an infographic can benefit them.

Here are eight steps to create those share worthy infographics:

1. Keep it simple

The easier it is to go through the infographic the better. That means don’t use too much information because it tends to make the infographic confusing and people won’t read through all of it.

2. Use Readable Fonts

Your main goal is to have people read through your infographic. If you use fancy fonts that make it hard to read, you are defeating your purpose. The infographic, itself, is creative. You don’t need to use creative fonts.

3. Tell a Story

When possible, tell a story with your infographic. This will make it more compelling and share worthy.

4. Make it Vertical

Studies have shown that people read vertically online, so for best results, create your infographic this way.

5. Use Color

Colors make your infographic pop! They draw the eye in. Use several colors to make the information stand out.

6. Choose a Topic

Make sure your information is on a topic your audience wants to learn about. If your infographic is on a topic your audience is interested in, they will be more likely to read and share it.

7. Use Interesting Imagery

This is where you can get really creative. I use cartoons, graphics, etc. when I create infographics. I want them to be fun as well as informative.

8. Organize

When you are placing data into your infographic, you want to make sure it’s not scattered about. Organize your infographic in an easy to read manner so others will understand it and follow it.

Another factor to consider when we talk about your infographic being shared is that you need to promote it. You can make the best infographic in the world, but if you don’t tell anyone about it, there’s no way it will get shared.

When you tweet about your infographic, use the hashtag #infographic. You want to make sure if you post on Facebook that you mention there’s an infographic. You’d be surprised how many people will come to your blog post because there’s an infographic. The same is true for Google+.

Start out with these simple steps and you will be well on your way to creating shareable infographics.
