How to Build a Mailing List of Subscribers Who Buy

You must have heard the saying that the money is in the list and maybe, you recognize it but you struggle to figure out how to get more people onto your list. This article will give you a strategy that will work as long as you work it.

Do not fall into the trap of over thinking it! Instead, do the work to make it happen in your business.

1. Decide Who You Want to be and Set Priorities

It is so easy to get caught up in list building mode but forget who you are in the process. You see this guru do something and you copy it, and then you see that guru do something else and you copy it, and any subscribers that do come your way never stick around because it seems like every other day, you are trying something different.

Before you get stuck in list building, be sure who decide you want to be and who you have to be to attract the right kinds of people into your world. This is your business. It’s not just about having a huge number of subscribers on your list who don’t understand you, so they take no action except to hit ‘unsubscribe’.

Do not be someone who chases after numbers, be someone who attracts the right people in whatever number to start with.

2. Determine Who Your People Are

Next, decide who your people are and what they want. Why would they come into your community? What can you offer as a free giveaway that will be attractive to the right people.

Again, make the focus be on the right people, not all people. It may assuage your ego to have huge numbers joining your list each day but it gets your bank balance nowhere fast. Figure out who your people are in detail and put together a giveaway that will attract them.

3. Plan a Landing Page

Where will you send your prospects to get the giveaway? Again, think through the headline and the bullet points on this page so it only appeals to the people you want in your world—the people most likely to take action continuously.

Sign up with an email autoresponder service, if you have not already done so. Aweber or GetResponse are great places to start. Set up a sign up form which will be placed on your landing page to collect those all-important details.

4. Send People to the Landing Page

Where do you think most of your ideal customers hang out? Whether online or not, find out where most of your people are and get in front of them in as many ways as you can think of.

Use targeted advertising like Facebook Advertising which enables you to get very specific about the person you are attracting and Google Adwords which enables you get really specific about what they would be searching for online. You can advertise on popular blogs that your people read as well as consider writing guest blogs on these sites where possible.

Attend events where your people may be, start building relationships, and invite them to take advantage of your giveaway. Incentivize current customers to refer people they know to take advantage of the giveaway as well.

5. Create Content that Sets You Apart

While attracting people into your world, get used to creating content that gets your message out on a regular basis. Whether it is in your email campaign or on the social media platforms that you have decided to be active on, you must consistently tell people what you are up to and what you are about.

You will get a lot of people who lurk but don’t buy immediately. Give them a well of information that attracts them further and further into your world (or repels them) until they are ready to make a move.

Implement these steps and you’ll see positive changes in your mailing list numbers.
