3 Tips to Match Your Message to Your Market

You know that you must stand out in the marketplace, right? You know that the chances are there are innumerable people who sell what you have to offer, so the only way you can get their attention is to stand out boldly.

How can you do this? You cannot just claim to be an expert and leave it at that. Lots of people do that, so how can people choose to work with you? Here are a few ideas for you to consider.

1. What is Your Why?

Why do you do what you do? Is it just about the money? That is a perfectly okay reason but own it fully and do not try to pretend you are something else. Also, expect that you will attract people just like you to your business because they will pick up on your underlying reason why.

Is it because you have a huge vision about the change you want to make in the world? Again, be clear about it, have mission statements, and have your own clear purpose statement.

Make sure that the action you take in your business each day brings you closer to that why. You will of course, then attract prospects and customers into your business who resonate with your big ‘why’.

Think about it. Why do you choose to work with someone over someone else? It is because of the feeling you get around them—the emotions you feel? Someone may sound absolutely excellent, and yet, you do not want to buy from every person. There are certain people you particularly resonate with, and so you will buy from them.

2. What Do You Do?

This is the part that most people know the answer to but not everyone can state it in a way that gets attention. Are you clear on the benefits, the solution you provide?

If I asked you what you do, what would your answer be? Would it be boring like “I am an architect,” or are you relating the benefits to the person that you are working with? “I make beautiful buildings where families create a life.” That is the same thing, and yet it sounds a lot more appealing and attractive to the market that you may be trying to infiltrate.

What are the needs of the people you want in your world? How can you get their attention? You know what they want and you know what you do. How can you communicate it in a way that gets attention? Think it through.

3. Connect the Why and the What

Don’t stop at solving people’s problems. There are many in your marketplace that do that. Connect your ‘what’ to your ‘why’ and attract people who need what you have and feel aligned to your purpose.

Implement this three step process to match your message to your market, and you’ll see how much of a difference it makes to your clarity about your business and the difference it makes to the customers who start to flock to you.
