3 Easy Tips to Maximize Your Time

Working from home is often hard to balance with all the other things that happen throughout the day.  Sometimes it can feel like we need just a few more hours in the day to get it all under control.  I’m sharing a few tricks I’ve perfected along the way to make the most of my time and gain that extra hour or two.

1. Set the timer!

…or better yet, clean during commercials and get in your “me time” and clean the house!
when a commercial comes on during your fav show(or set the timer for 2 min) and clean.  Focus on one room at a time, if you find something belongs in another room just throw it in the other room, don’t put it away until you get to that room.  When the show comes back on, or timer goes off, you go back to what you were doing…or watching.  Next commercial you get up again and continue where you left off.

This accomplishes two things, you tend to focus your activities, and get the cleaning done faster because for those few minutes you’re focused on only that.  By focusing only on one room you do not get distracted.  By the end of the show you will likely have at least one if not 2 or 3 rooms totally clean, instead of having parts of the whole house clean.  This way if you don’t get to the whole house at least you have some rooms totally cleaned up and ready for the next day 🙂  Also, by using the commercials you get to have some “me time” by watching one show (or two, or three) just for you.

2. Check your calendar, list list list!

Make a list of your meetings first, followed by the most important things on your long to do list that you NEED to accomplish that day…do those things first thing in the morning!  This will ensure you get them done and even end the day ahead of the game!

3. Plan ahead!

Lay out your clothes, lay out the kids clothes, shoes, back packs, make sure everything you need is in your purse/wallet the night before. Pack your lunch, pack the kids lunches. Most importantly prep the coffee maker 😉  The extra 20-30 min you spend doing this at night can actually save you hours in the morning and certainly a ton of stress.  No waiting for the coffee to brew so you can think straight, no scrambling to find things, no forgetting lunches and having to run back later to drop them off.  You are prepped for a smooth stress free morning and everyone out the door on time.
