10 Reasons To Build An Email List

July 10, 2014 By Toni Nelson

Have you ever been to a website and thought, Great content! I’ll sign up for their emails? The problem, they have no place to sign up.

Perhaps they thought an email list wasn’t important.

That’s what one business owner told me at a networking luncheon.

Proudly, she told me about the thousands of visitors she gets to her site. When I asked what her opt-in offer was she looked at me and said, “What’s an opt-in?”

When someone visits your site and you offer him or her an e-book, etc.. in order to receive the offer, they need to fill out a form (from your email service provider). Once they “opt-in,” they not only receive your free offer but also your newsletters, announcements, or any other type of information you choose to share.

If you don’t have a way for them to opt-in, how will you communicate with them?

10 Reasons You Need an Email List

1. Outreach

If you don’t have a list of email subscribers how can you offer them your products and services in the future? You need a way to reach out to them.

2. Entry To Your Sales Funnel

Once a person becomes a subscriber you are able to start building a relationship with them. This is the perfect opportunity to draw people into your sales funnel. Over time, you will be able to share with them the value of your products and services.

3. Direct Line Of Communication

Email is one of the most direct ways you can reach out to your audience because your message is delivered into their inbox.

4. Put Your Personality Into Your Marketing

Whether people realize it or not, they are making a mental commitment by signing up to your list.

5. Subscribers-Only Offers

Reward your list of subscribers with exclusive offers. You want people to realize staying on your list means they belong to a “community” that has benefits.

6. Build A Community

When you email your subscribers and give them that personal touch, you are getting to know each other. Let them know you appreciate that they are on your list.

7. Business Value

When you have a list of email subscribers, it builds value to your company. If your list is responsive, this can help you in a number of ways. You will have people who buy your products and services as well as have the potential to attract investors.

8. Conversation

You want to start a conversation. Encourage people to give you feedback. This can help you know the direction you need to take in your communications with them.

9. Take The Time To Get To Know Your Audience

By interacting with your audience via email, have them answers questions or take a survey. This is another way you are getting to know them better. Again, this helps you tailor your message to their needs so they respond better to your offers.

10. Everyone’s Doing It

There’s no doubt about it—email marketing is being done by your competition. By learning the proper way to communicate and build your community, you have the competitive edge.

Before you run out and start your list, you need to first decide what you’d like to do with it. Do you want it to be used as an entry into your sales funnel? Are you going to use your list to build your brand’s reputation? Once you define your purpose, you’ll better understand what you need to do in order to build a responsive list.
